Where to Request a Putnam Jail Record
For a Putnam County booking sheet or booking photograph, start with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Howard R. Sills. The sheriff’s contact page lists the office at 111 Ridley Drive, P.O. Box 3637, Eatonton, GA 31024. Its non-emergency number is 706-485-8557 and is listed as available 24 hours. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Putnam County Jail is at 111 Ridley Drive, Eatonton, GA 31024, and the jail telephone number is 706-485-2680.
The sheriff’s Forms page directs records requests to Records@putnamcountysheriff.org and provides the general Open Records form. Identify the person, approximate booking date, arresting agency, and any known booking or case number. Ask for the existing booking or intake sheet and the associated photograph as separate items, preferably in electronic form when available. The form cites the Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. sections 50-18-70 through 50-18-77. It states that paper copies are 10 cents per page, the first 15 minutes of administrative work are free, and later administrative time may use the rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee. Those are request rules, not a promise that every record is public or still retained.
When Eatonton Police Holds the Lead
For an Eatonton Police incident or arrest report, contact the Eatonton Police Department at 214 West Marion Street, P.O. Box 3820, Eatonton, GA 31024, telephone 706-485-3551. The city’s Public Safety page describes the building as housing police headquarters, a city jail, and Municipal Court. No department-specific online open-records form, fee table, or promised turnaround was confirmed in the research, so ask the department for its records custodian and submission method.
The sheriff states that people arrested in Putnam County for state-law violations are housed at the Putnam County Jail regardless of the arresting agency. That makes the sheriff the first records route for a county booking photograph, even when an Eatonton officer made the arrest. Call the police department when the question concerns a city incident, Municipal Court matter, or possible temporary city holding, and call the jail or sheriff when it concerns county custody or a jail booking record.
Other Places to Check
The right office depends on the person’s custody stage and the record being sought. These routes can help when a jail call or a records request is not the full answer.
- For later charges, hearings, and dispositions, use the Putnam County Clerk of Courts. The clerk lists case-search and copy-request services and can be reached at 100 South Jefferson Avenue, Suite 236, Eatonton, GA 31024, 706-485-4501, or info@putnamcourtclerk.org.
- For a person sentenced to state custody or under state supervision, use the Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender query. It is not a recent Putnam County Jail roster and an image there should not be called a county booking photo without proof of its source.
- For a selected wanted notice or the sheriff’s warrant process, read Most Wanted Fugitives. The sheriff’s list is selective and is not a complete name-search warrant portal.
- For a federal sentenced prisoner, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. For civil immigration detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Neither is a county mugshot service.
- For a dated local report, the Eatonton Messenger’s Putnam County Jail Report is a weekly newspaper source, not a live custody database or court disposition.
